“...THE FURNITURE HISTORIAN WILL RECOGNIZE THE RICHNESS OF THESE HOLDINGS.”

-- PHILLIP D. ZIMMERMAN

MUSEUM & DECORATIVE ARTS CONSULTANT

The New Castle Historical Society has a varied collection of historic artifacts, documents, images and books spanning the 17th century to the present. Our collections include furniture, decorative arts, tools, toys, clothing and other textiles, personal items, historic documents, photographs, other images, maps, books and art. Many artifacts from our collection are on exhibition in the Amstel House and Dutch House. Our archival and library collections are stored at our administrative offices in the Arsenal. Our collections records are not yet available online. See the gallery below for a sample of some of the objects in our collection.

USING THE COLLECTIONS

Our artifact and archival collections are available to the public for research purposes. Due to our small staff, appointments are required for research visits.

Our genealogical resources are limited, and specific to the City of New Castle and New Castle Hundred. We do not actively collect records for all of New Castle County.

New Castle County published an excellent free guide on researching the history of your property available here
